I toyed with eventually replacing my Chromebook with a Windows laptop, but if I would end up having a subpar version of Scrivener, it didn’t seem worth it. And of course, you can’t get Scrivener for Chromebooks. The problem was that my MacBook was old and breathed its last a couple of years later, and I had to hastily replace my expensive laptop with the cheapest one I could find which was a Chromebook. I adored Scrivener, and that was without even knowing about or using half of the features. I first got the software years ago on my old MacBook using a discount code I got from winning NaNoWriMo, and to be honest, it’s some of the best money I’ve ever spent. Whilst I previously had a MacBook and loved using it, I can’t afford to replace it with another £1000 laptop every few years, and so have since had to switch to cheaper options. This isn’t overly surprising, as I feel like a lot of tech companies prioritize Mac, but when you look at the price of Apple products, it makes it so that many people just can’t use the software. A Windows version has been available for years, but it had far fewer features and was less polished and far less usable than the superior Mac version. There was previously one big problem with Scrivener though, and that was that you basically had to own a Mac for it to be worthwhile buying. Many consider it to be the best software specifically for writers, and it has plenty of devoted fans, myself included. If you hang around in writer circles for long enough, you will inevitably hear the program Scrivener come up.
