![]() ![]() A good sized chicken breast coated in crispy breadcrumbs with plenty of tobacco onions, the quality of the food here is superb.Įvery Friday and Saturday from 4pm – 7pm the bar also do a two for the price of one deal on cocktails with all sorts of interesting concoctions on offer, making this not only a great spot for a bite to eat, but also the perfect location to start a night out from, with many other pubs within walking distance. Of the choices offered on the cinema deal, I’d recommend the chicken burger with cheese, bacon and tobacco onions which is a hearty and surprisingly tasty feed to keep you going through any film. 95.Īnother great deal on offer is the ‘Cinema Deal’ which serves a main course, a side and a cinema ticket for the Omniplex down the road for only £12.95, which is definitely worth the money considering you would pay around £7 for the cinema ticket alone. The menu is extensive and wide ranging, with everything from a full Sunday carvery to traditional Irish and European dishes, and you can always count on the ‘Town’s Best Steak Deal’ which serves two ribeye steaks with sides, sauces, onion rings, garlic bread and a bottle of wine for only £28. With a secret tunnel leading all the way to Carrickfergus Castle, a ghost room and a roaring coal burning fire, Dobbins has all the makings of a true haunted hotel, and if you’re lucky, you might even bump into the ghost of Elizabeth Dobyn (also known as Maud) who is said to roam the halls, stroking the faces of the patrons.Īside from the hotel side of the Inn, the property also boasts a public bar and a 70 seater restaurant, which is perhaps a little dated, but is as atmospheric and cosy as you would expect. Situated just a stone’s throw away from the historic Castle and St Nicholas Church, this 13 th Century family run Inn is also one of Ireland’s oldest pubs.Īt over 500 years old, Dobbins does a good job of oozing history without being cold and uncomfortable and if you’re planning on spending the night, it even has some modern updates like complimentary WI-FI, a TV and tea and coffee making facilities. I appreciate that this channel is for public reviews of hospitality establishments visited and to act as a guide for potential customers, however I feel this review has no value in its content. It doesn’t get much more central than Carrickfergus’ Dobbins Inn. We take great pleasure in serving our food in the bar lounge & Landings restaurant and feedback is always that it is cosy and welcoming. In relation to the "environment " that you dined in, anyone that visits our establishment or indeed looks on our social media posts will see exactly the areas that we serve food in. The kitchen team also work with, prep and serve fresh food, so the suggestion that the food is not freshly cooked, again is simply untrue. Nor do we serve frozen Lasagne, this is simply untrue, as it is one of our most popular dishes. On your comments regarding the food, it is impossible to cook a steak well done in 5 minutes, even, as you suggested it was done in the mircowave, something I can categorically state we would never do. As is standard all guests are asked if everything is satisfactory with their meals midway through dining, so this would have been brought to our attention, however there is no records of issues as stated in your comments. More Show lessĭear Webya, I find this post somewhat distorted & questionable, given the severity of your comments on a visit you had back in January, you only now feel the need to post your comments 2 months later? After discussion with the team, no one remembers anyone advising them of any issues of this nature. I would be happy to come back, and look forward to seeing more of the surrounding area next time. Staff were local and had good tips and advice to help make the most of the location. We booked late so may have been in one of the rooms needing more attention, so don’t be put off. Would hate to see it ‘modernised’ - the uniqueness is it’s age and obvious character - but small snag jobs on broken bathroom fittings eg are an easy fix that would lift it from a slight sense of neglect to wow factor. I’d have loved to give 5 stars, based on personality, but it just misses based on decor & room fittings. The bar is charming, with a flagstone floor and plenty of interest historically. ![]() Location is perfect for easy run from Belfast City, and access via train (5 mins walk and 10 mins trip) to the stunning lighthouse - free - coastal walk. Good to see a range of food, including a full vegetarian and vegan menu (bonus!). The staff were friendly, flexible and helpful throughout, with very good breakfast and evening food service. Thanks to the Dobbins Team for a lovely short break. ![]()
